FAQs
Q: What type of health services do you offer at Ahava Health?
A: I offer holistic health and nutrition services. This means I assist people to improve their health through natural methods such as nutritional supplements, herbal therapies, dietary change, lifestyle improvements, detoxification procedures, and so forth. Usually an important component of the work I do with clients is to order a hair mineral analysis test for the client. I then interpret the test and write up an individualized plan for that client to guide them in their healing. I do not always do a hair test, however, as some clients do not want this. In those cases we do what I call a consultation without a hair test. You can see this listed as one of the types of services I offer on the Services page of this website.
Q: Why do you use the hair mineral test?
A: A hair mineral test gives a great deal of information about what is happening in a person’s body, such as their oxidation rate (ie metabolic rate), their thyroid and adrenal strength, their overall nutritional status, the presence of toxins, the tendency toward various disease states, and much more. See the article on this website titled Why Hair Analysis for more information. The hair test is an ideal tool for helping to devise individualize nutrition plans. Without the hair test it can be difficult to know what a person actually needs, nutritionally, because symptoms are often not a very good guide to know what someone needs.
Q: Are you a doctor?
A: No. I am not a physician, or a doctor, or a medical professional. My work is largely educational in nature, although I am also a practitioner, of sorts. I teach people how care for their health so that their body can heal. The body does the healing as a result of the right “inputs” being given to it — the right food, water, nutritional support etc.. I assist by giving recommendations and helping people understand what to do and why, as well as helping them understand the healing process. An important part of this process is that I give each client an individualized set of written recommendations — called their “nutrition plan.” This document outlines diet, supplement recommendations, detoxification procedures, and so forth, that are recommended to assist that client to heal.
Q: Do you have an office where I can visit you?
A: Currently, I work from home, so usually I meet with clients by phone or we do an online video meeting. Many of my clients do not live in my area and some are not in the US. I do at times, however, arrange to meet a client in a pubic place or at a library or restaurant so that they have the benefit of meeting with me face to face. Usually I charge an additional fee if I drive to meet a client in a mutually agreed to location either to cut a sample or to simply meet.
Q: Can you diagnose me?
A: No. Medical professionals such as licensed physicians are the only professionals who are authorized legally to provide diagnoses. While I can suggest that your symptoms match a certain syndrome or condition, I am not providing a diagnosis when I do that, I am simply helping you to understand your body and its symptoms. If you want a diagnosis, you need to seek someone who is authorized to provide that. As a person offering health services who is not a doctor, it is very important for me to clarify what services I do and do not offer. Please see the disclosure and disclaimer for clarification on this matter. It is found at the bottom of every page on this website.
Q: If you cannot diagnose, treat or cure any disease, illness or condition, can you still help me?
A: In most cases, yes. I can help you if you are willing to work on your diet, take some nutritional supplements and possibly make some lifestyle adjustments. This is the bare minimum that is required. In some cases it is also necessary to add detoxification procedures or other approaches, even, at times auxiliary therapies such as chiropractic. This facilitates your body to do the healing. Sometimes it is helpful if you obtain a diagnosis, but often knowing the exact name of someone’s condition is not necessary because the hair tests plus symptoms plus health history are adequate to guide the changes a person needs to make to facilitate the body to do its own healing work.
Q: What is your training?
A: My training consists of my background education which includes two college degrees plus additional work in basic biological sciences at the college level, followed by training to obtain my Nutritional Balancing Practitioner credentials. This is described in more detail on the About Me page and the Qualifications page on this website. I also worked under Dr. Larry Wilson, MD for 11 years as an advanced student/practitioner.
Q: Who is Dr. Larry Wilson, MD?
A: Dr. Wilson is one of the individuals who developed the method of health recovery that I use, which is called Nutritional Balancing. He worked alongside Dr. Paul Eck, who was the founder of the lab that I use primarily for hair tests, Analytical Research Labs (ARL). Dr. Wilson and Dr. Eck worked together for over a decade and a half to discover how to properly assist people to heal with mainly simple nutritional approaches, using the information gained from a properly performed hair mineral test as a guide.
Q: How much does this process of healing with Nutritional Balancing cost, typically?
A: If a person wants to do hair mineral analysis tests and Nutritional Balancing nutrition plans with me, they have a choice of three options which are package deals, meaning they include everything in one package that you need to get started. These options are described on the Services page on this website. In addition to the “package” which includes the test, the written nutrition plan and a limited amount of “support time,” the person will need to purchase supplements. Supplement costs vary from as low as about $125 per month to around double that, and at times even a little more than double that.
Q: How long does it take to get well with this method?
A: The answer is different for different concerns, and different people, naturally. When health concerns are very mild, a person may become “well” in the sense that their main complaint resolves, within a year or two. However, when health concerns are more serious (for example, autoimmune conditions, deep rooted chronic infections, many mental health conditions or deeper rooted digestive health concerns) the healing will usually take a minimum of 3 years and easily up to 6 years. This is definitely not a quick fix method. It does however, produce lasting healing, unlike many other methods. It is important to recognize that even if someone’s main health concern does not completely resolve in a short time, usually they have many excellent improvements in health and functioning, very quickly. So, for example, someone whose main complaint is arthritis may still have mild arthritis six months to a year after beginning the healing process, so we say that they are not completely healed. But they may be able to do many things that they could not do before they began the healing journey. This is in fact, typical for most people. Most people who have significant illness find this process to be life changing because of the real and deep healing that it can promote. The healing seems slow, however, to some people who just want symptoms to go away promptly.
Q: Why does it take so long?
A: Real healing is the goal of this approach and real healing is very different from making symptoms go away. Real healing often requires an actual “rebuilding” of the body/mind/psyche or spirit. At times, problems are “buried” deeply within the body or psyche. While it might be possible to make a problem “go away” with a drug or other remedy, or maybe a surgery, often when this is done, the problem returns later. This approach involves strengthening the body so much that the body spontaneously heals itself. This means we must raise the body’s vitality a great deal. Getting at the real root cause of a condition is a bit like “peeling the onion” — you can only address the layer that is showing at the current time, and then, you have to wait for the body’s healing processes to play out. For this reason, this approach is much slower than other approaches. Hence it many not be the correct approach for something life threatening like cancer. At times it can be utilized alongside other approaches that are quicker, however.
Q: Is there anyone who cannot or should not do this approach to healing?
A: Nutritional Balancing can be effective and is possible to use with the very young and the very old. It is also possible to use it with very ill people, though, as mentioned above, sometimes if a person has a fast-moving or very dangerous illness, it is not appropriate to use Nutritional Balancing except as an adjunct to a more forceful or rapid approach. In some cases with someone who is very ill, it is simply best to try it and see because it can be almost impossible to predict whether a person’s body can utilize the therapy to recover or at least improve from something serious. There are people for whom this is not the right approach because they lack the willingness, interest or strength to be able to do what needs to be done. Usually it is best for someone to not choose this path unless they have some willingness to make changes in certain areas. A final important factor is that this approach often requires a fair bit of reading so that clients can learn about the recommended changes. If a person has trouble with reading, it might not be impossible for them to succeed, but it could be more costly. If someone can’t or won’t read to learn procedures or other information, they will likely need more support time with their practitioner.
